The new bingo hall

Bingo is widely regarded as one of the most popular games in Britain. For decades, people have flocked to bingo halls across the country in search of social celebration as well as a small fortune and its popularity continues to spread far and wide at an alarming rate.

This, however, is not as good as it sounds for UK bingo halls, since the exponential rise in popularity is primarily attributed to the Internet. Websites like Bingoport and Diva Bingo are attracting more and more visitors every month as the convenience and, indeed, affordability of playing at home is gripping the bingo fraternity.

As the internet itself continues to expand, more and more bingo companies are utilising its potential to draw in new punters. Players can log on, play and win in a matter of minutes while saving on drinks and travel at the same time.

This internet bingo boom is not limited to laptops and desktops either: the world of internet-capable smartphones is on the rise, too, which is providing bingo companies with another medium through which to operate. Bringing bingo to the palm of your hand means that the game is now even more local than ever before, but many dedicated players will argue that the whole ethos of bingo in the first place was to bring the local community together.

Smartphones and laptops might well be making it more of a solitary game, but the actual size of the community, like many other growing digital communities, is bigger than ever. At Bingoport Free Bingo is also on offer, which gives players an even greater reason to stay in front of the fire.Opinion will be divided between, shall we say, seasoned and fresh players as to what the main attraction of bingo actually is: going out or cashing in. Bingo is, of course, a form of gambling, but it is social gambling. People used to play it to go out and to cash in (or at least hope to cash in).Now the popularity of the going out part has somewhat dwindled, the emphasis seems to be leaning towards cashing in as the main, or perhaps sole, reason that people partake in the pastime. Of course, it is gambling and it seems implausible that so many people would play it if the financial incentives didnt exist, but bingo is still great fun through whichever medium it is played.

There is nothing quite like the excitement and the occasional riches it brings. Bingo in the traditional bingo hall might be in second place now, but the game is still bringing people together in greater numbers than ever before in its web-based home. It is the same game, if not a more exciting, faster-paced game, in a different and contemporary arena.
