A PETROL station offering cheap petrol to drivers if they buy booze as well has been slammed by safety campaigners who fear it could encourage drink-driving.
Motorists are given 4p off per litre on their fuel bill when they purchase alcohol at the Jet garage on the Warwick Road in Kenilworth.
The petrol station is currently charging drivers just under £1.32 for a litre of unleaded fuel.
The promotion is being offered as scores of drivers across the Midlands face court following drink drive campaigns by police over the Christmas period.
One 44 year-old woman, from Nuneaton, was accused of being five times over the legal limit when she was stopped by Warwickshire officers.
They also arrested a 73-year-old man following a collision in Moors Lane, Rugby, and a 19 year-old, from Brownsover, who spent Christmas morning in custody after he allegedly gave a positive breath test.
The offer at the Jet garage flies in the face of advice issued by Alcohol Concern, who recommend safety warnings be displayed at garages where alcohol is available, and staff are fully trained in responsible sales practices.
The campaign group has also suggested that the UK follows France, which has banned booze from petrol stations altogether.
