Birmingham double murder: £10,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of killers of Avtar Kolar and wife Carole

A reward of up to £10,000 has been offered today for information regarding the murder of Carole and Avtar Kolar at their home in Handsworth Wood earlier this week.

Independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers has put up the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deaths.

Carole, aged 58, and Avtar, aged 62, were found dead at their address in Friary Road, Handsworth Wood at around 8am on Wednesday (11 January) by their police officer son.

The couple had been spoken to the evening before the murder, but when they failed to answer their son's calls on Wednesday morning, he went to their home where he discovered their bodies.

Detectives continue to follow numerous lines of enquiry whilst the post mortems are carried out to establish the exact cause of death.

Yesterday, two of the couple's other children – Michelle Kirwan and Avtar Kolar – spoke at a media conference of their heartbreak and loss following the death of their parents.

Michelle said: "My mom and dad were the sweetest, kindest people that I have ever met and would do anything for anyone. They were the beautiful parents of myself, Jason, Taz and Marie, sons and daughter-in-laws and the precious Nanna and granddad of eight grandchilden, who adored them with all their hearts.

"Whoever has done this has not taken just two lives, but a further 16. Our hearts are broken forever and our lives will never be the same."
