Show Me The Funny hopeful from Leamington Spa says TV programme was not funny enough

A MIDLAND funnyman who starred in comedy’s version of the X Factor has hit out at the programme – for not being funny enough.

Stuart Goldsmith, 34 and from Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, made the semi-finals of ITV’s Show Me The Funny.

The series saw 10 comics battling to win £100,000, a UK tour and a DVD release.

But it was panned by viewers and critics for spending too much time on tasks and not showing more of the contestants’ routines.

Stuart, who is bringing his hit Edinburgh Festival show to Birmingham this month, agrees.

“I’d have preferred them to have shown more of the gigs,” the former street performer told the Sunday Mercury.

“I looked on Twitter and it was pretty much united over it, which is very rare indeed.

“People were saying: ‘Just show us the gigs. Why do I want to see them walking around a shopping centre?’”

The series was won by Patrick Monahan, a 35-year-old Irish-Iranian who was brought up in Teeside.
