IT’S the road junction where motorists, pedestrians and cyclists literally don’t know if they’re coming or going.
Because barmy highways chiefs have left them all scratching their heads by installing this totally confusing set of road markings and bollards.
Incredibly, Leicestershire County Council has defended its wacky work in Belton Road West, Loughborough,
They claim the markings are meant to show pedestrians and cyclists they should pass through the bollards, which are there to prevent cars from crossing into an industrial estate.
To add to the chaos, a set of double yellow lines also borders the junction.
Local businessman Stewart Jones, managing director of nearby IRL Group Ltd, said: “It’s Benny Hill stuff – ridiculous. I feel aggrieved that as a business we’re having to pay for this.
“I can’t see the point. Whoever designed this is not of this world.”
Last night a spokesman for campaign group the Taxpayers’ Alliance said: “If these road markings and ill-placed bollards weren’t such a waste of taxpayer money, the ludicrous directions would be funny.
