Boy George: My bullying hell in jail

Boy George

POP star Boy George has lifted the lid on the homophobic bullying he suffered behind bars.

The former Culture Club frontman was sentenced to 15 months for falsely imprisoning a male escort in January 2009.

Now the former Birmingham-based singer has revealed the cruel verbal abuse he suffered from other inmates.

“I spent four months at Edmund’s Hill prison (in Suffolk) and experienced, initially, a lot of homophobia, but also a lot of love,” he said.

“It was mainly young guys shouting out ‘batty boy’ and things like that

“It was nothing I hadn’t heard before and I dealt with it in the way I would on the street.

“Telling me I’m gay is not news to me. Why are you telling me I’m gay? Yeah, I know, I’m 50!”

George was jailed for handcuffing male escort Audun Carlsen to a wall and imprisoning him in his London home.
