A TERROR suspect thought to have trained for a “Mumbai-style” gun siege attack has been moved to the Midlands.
Security experts have warned that the alleged jihadist, who was taken out of London under the conditions of a strict control order, could be free to move back to urban areas under new Government legislation.
The suspected fanatic, who has dual British and Nigerian nationality, was described by security sources as a “leading figure in a close group of Islamic extremists based in North London”.
MI5 believe he was given extensive training in Syria to replicate on the streets of the UK the devastating 2008 Mumbai attrocity, when gunmen across the Indian city launched coordinated attacks, claiming 160 lives.
Earlier this month, Home Secretary Theresa May announced plans to replace controversial control orders, which can effectively place terror suspects under house arrest, as part of the Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures (TPIMs) Act.
The new system only allows courts to exclude individuals from small areas, specific buildings or streets, and cannot ban terror suspects from whole cities.
