BIRMINGHAM City star Liam Ridgewell and sweetheart Kirsty MacLaren have sensationally cancelled their wedding – just eight days before the ceremony.
The former Blues captain, 26, had planned to wed his fiancée in a lavish £170,000 bash at a luxury Midland country hotel next Saturday.
But the couple dramatically called off the nuptials on Friday by sending a text to their 200 guests.
By coincidence, the decision came just 24 hours after Ridgewell’s best friend Ashley Young cancelled his own wedding to Nicky Pike.
The Carling Cup winner and Kirsty, 23, sent a dramatic text to guests which read: “Dear All. We are very saddened to inform you that we have had to cancel our wedding planned for the 18th June @ Stapleford Park.

“It has not been an easy decision but has been mutually made by both of us.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would ask for your understanding at this difficult time.
‘‘Many thanks Liam and Kirsty.”
Our reporter approached the soccer star at his £1.4 million home in Barnt Green, Worcestershire, yesterday which had a large ‘For Sale’ sign at the front and he initially claimed the wedding was still on.
Speaking over the intercom outside the gates to his six bedroom home, the dad-of-two said: “The wedding is not cancelled, that’s the first I’ve heard. I’m sure Kirsty would have told me. It must be some kind of bizarre prank, that’s all I can think.
“As far as I know I am still getting married next Saturday.”
But simple checks confirmed that the wedding WAS off.
