CHRIS Tarrant has thrown his support behind the Sunday Mercury’s campaign to make Roy Wood a star.
Chris is the latest celebrity to be honoured on the Broad Street Walk of Stars in Birmingham – but he thinks musician Roy should be the next in line.
The host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? says: “That’s a splendid idea.
“I presented him with a lifetime achievement award a few years ago but I know a star on Broad Street would mean a lot to him.
“He is one of those underrated musicians. People forget just how multi-talented he is and what an incredible influence he’s had on music.
“He doesn’t just sing, he plays the piano, the guitar and bass. I remember him having problems with the Musician’s Union at one stage because he was doing all the work himself and not employing enough people!
“I’ve known him a long time, since the days of Tiswas, but he hasn’t changed. He’s timeless and has looked virtually the same since he was 15.
“I saw him from the back in Stratford-upon-Avon a few months ago, with his manic mane of hair, silver boots and bright jacket. I called out to him, he turned round and said ‘How did you know it was me?’.
