COME on, Birmingham – give Roy Wood a star for Christmas!

As Broad Street’s famous Walk Of Stars celebrates its third birthday, more and more people are signing up to the Sunday Mercury’s campaign to get the Move, Wizzard and ELO legend his place on the pavement.

Since the first star was awarded to Ozzy Osbourne in July 2007, seventeen celebrities have been honoured, coming from music, television, film, radio, theatre, sport, business and literature.

But one man is missing.

Even Ozzy says: “I am amazed that Roy Wood didn’t get the number one star, the first one, because he has done some great music over the years. Roy is a great, talented guy. I’d back the Sunday Mercury campaign to get him a star one million per cent!”

The Mercury started campaigning for Roy to get a Broad Street star in 2009, and more than 1,000 fans have backed our plea. Other celebrity supporters include Toyah Willcox, Graham Gouldman and Status Quo.

Broad Street manager Mike Olley says: “Roy Wood is an amazing Birmingham-bred talent. He certainly fits the bill and he gets my vote. We look forward to seeing how this campaign develops. We do listen to the public, so have your say!”

Here are some of the latest comments, which have come not just from the Midlands but all round the UK, and as far away as Eire, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Canada, the USA and Australia.
