Five-year-old Erdington girl May Porter becomes princess for the day

LITTLE May Porter spent days dreaming she would become a princess – just like the Disney movie heroines she watched from her hospital bed while undergoing chemotherapy.

Now the brave five-year-old, from Erdington, Birmingham, who has spent the last year battling cancer, has had her wish come true.

May was swept away to a castle fit for a fairytale in a horse and carriage with her mum Samantha, dad Neil and three year-old brother Joe.

And she was presented with a beautiful princess outfit, complete with pink dress, tiara, sparkling shoes and necklace.

The staff at Thornbury Castle, near Bristol, were delighted to entertain such a beautifully important guest for the day.

And the manager at the venue, which operates as a hotel, even got down on one knee and kissed May on the hand.

Samantha, 36, said: “It was brilliant. They took us out and everybody was waving and clapping.

“The hotel manager went down on one knee and kissed May’s hand. She was awestruck.

“They gave her a special dressing gown and a cake that said ‘Princess May’ on it with a picture of a castle.

“There were cucumber sandwiches too, but May just wanted the cake!

“May is a proper girly girl. She’s a little monkey and very determined in whatever she does, but that has stood her in good stead.

“She is a real little fighter.
