Luke Walker did not kill Chelsea Hyndman, insist the couple's friends

FRIENDS of Chelsea Hyndman have revealed the tragic truth about the drunken fall that led to her Black Country boyfriend being charged with murder.

Greek police believe that Luke Walker, from Brierley Hill, attacked his 20-year old girlfriend in a jealous rage on the island of Crete, causing the rupture of internal organs which caused her death on May 17.

But close friends of the couple, who have been together for two years, say Luke, 22, would never hurt the ‘love of his life’ – and are adamant that Chelsea’s death was caused by a tragic accident.

Now the group of boys and girls, who call themselves ‘The Malia Family’ have given a detailed account of just what happened to party girl Chelsea during a birthday night out, during which she had a heavy fall.

Close friend Louise, who celebrated her 24th birthday on May 6, said: “Chelsea and I became very close this year and she organised my birthday night in Crete: where to go, the theme and the games.

“We did a stag and hen thing, hence the white dress, and the girls weren’t allowed to see the guys until later in the night.

“There were three of us who saw Chelsea fall that night. It happened right in front of us.

“We were playing games where someone would say a specific word and we all had to jump to the floor. Someone shouted a word – I can’t remember what – and Chelsea jumped to the floor.

“But she tripped on one of the other girl’s feet, and she stumbled. As she fell, she picked up speed. She was unable to break her fall because she had a glass in one hand and was trying to fix her clothing with the other.

“Chelsea hit the cobbled floor and she took a blow to the stomach. She hit the floor and didn’t say anything for about 30 seconds. Laura and I ran over and Chelsea swore, then said: ‘My stomach hurts’.

“We joked around because we were all quite drunk. It was quite early in the night, about 12.30pm, and we had only left the apartment an hour beforehand.

“We asked if she was okay but because she often suffered from stomach cramps and bad hangovers, we didn’t think anything of it.

“We weren’t allowed to see the guys, but Luke was missing Chelsea so much that he came over, gave her a sneaky kiss and told her he loved her. We had such a great night. Memories I will cherish forever.”

The girls spent the next day recovering. Despite the odd pain, Chelsea reassured Luke and her friends that she was fine – but by the Sunday she was barely able to eat. Five days after the fall the girls became increasingly worried.
