A WHEELCHAIR-bound cancer victim with only months to live has finally been offered a ground-floor home, thanks to the Sunday Mercury.
Terminally ill Kevin Mills had begged Birmingham City Council for a move from his high-rise apartment in Stetchford after bowel cancer surgery left him unable to walk.
But the authority allegedly initially failed to meet his request – despite the 49-year-old dad being given just months to live.
Yet after we highlighted his plight the council has now offered Mr Mills a ground-floor home in Kitts Green, which he will share with partner Susan Gill and their five-year-old daughter Hayley.
“I can’t thank the Sunday Mercury enough,” the dad said last night. “The paper getting involved definitely seemed to move the council along and I’m just pleased they have finally seen sense.”
