She later lived in Los Angeles for many years and rubbed shoulders with movies stars including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Joan Collins.
The model even went on to star in the smash-hit daytime US soap Santa Barbara as Belinda Bradley, a feisty lawyer who took on all the tough cases.
Janis, who now runs a hair extension firm in London called Hair Development, said: “There’s no doubt that advert helped my career, it was one of the best things I’ve ever done.
“I’ve only been able to achieve so much in my life because of the exposure that ad gave me.
‘‘I have appeared in over 50 commercials and acted in numerous films and plays and loved every minute of it.”
And sporty Janis is hoping she can land one last showbiz gig on the back of her TV fame.
She added: “I would love to go on Strictly Come Dancing.
“When I was in America I used to love performing swing-style dancing with lots of throws and lifts.
“So it would be great to get a go on the show.”
Cadbury introduced the sexy Flake girl adverts in 1959.
They initially showed attractive young girls eating the crumbly confectionary while relaxing with the slogan ‘sixpence worth of heaven’.
But by the late 1960s the ads had been given a racier twist with the introduction of young model Hioma MacDonald, who was seen wading through a lake before taking a bite of the chocolate.
A haunting female voice played in the background singing the now famous lines, ‘only the crumbliest, flakiest, chocolate’.
Other adverts showed a beautiful young woman letting her bath overflow while eating a Flake, another featured a girl in negligee perched on a windowsill on a sweltering evening ignoring the telephone in favour of her tasty treat.
The commercials ran until 2004 when they were finally axed after six decades.
But they were brought back three years later with soul singer Joss Stone as the new face of Flake.
Her advert showed a montage of clips from a studio session before cutting to the young artist enjoying a bite of the chocolate, while singing the famous slogan under her breath.
