SNOOKER legend Jimmy White has been interviewed as a witness by detectives probing an alleged Midland money laundering ring.

The fans’ favourite spoke to serious organised crime officers from West Midlands Police last month as part of an ongoing investigation.

The force has confirmed it has taken a witness statement from the London-based star, nicknamed The Whirlwind.

He was not arrested and has not been charged with any offences.

Last night, a World Snooker spokesman said Jimmy White had no comment to make.

“He said there was nothing more to say about the matter,’’ they said. ‘‘The issue was left in the hands of West Midlands Police.’’

Jimmy, 47, is one of the sport’s most famous names and has been described as the best player never to have won the World Championship.

He broke onto the scene in 1980 and his fast-paced play quickly saw him become a popular crowd-pleaser.

During his hugely successful career Jimmy has won 10 ranking tournaments, including the UK Championship in 1992, as well as 22 non-ranking events.
