They are the qualities that have won the Sunday Mercury the top honour five times in the last nine years.

In between, we have picked up awards and commendations in national media competitions.

Panel chairman Keith Parker, former editor of the Express & Star and a distinguished giant of Midland journalism, said: “We were particularly impressed with the quality of the Mercury’s news, features and photography, all of the highest standard.

But we are not resting on our laurels, as today’s edition of your favourite Sunday read shows.

We are hot on the trail of fraudsters, those who prey on the weak and vulnerable, and those who ply their sinister trade in the shadows.

So today we have a message for the crooks, conmen and corrupt.

The celebrations are over, and we are watching you.
