Mormon Crickets have been wreaking havoc on local highways for decades. There were so many dead insects last year that snow ploughs scraped them off the roads.

The community turned to the rock n roll method after resident Elaine Parks uncovered a 1934 newspaper article which suggested vibrations from using a loud gong would drive the crickets away.

She adopted a modern approach to the problem and wired up ghetto blasters in the hope loud music would have the same effect.

The theory was theyd hate heavy metal, said Elaine.
