DESPERATE Midland women are turning to prostitution to fight the credit crunch, the Sunday Mercury can reveal.

According to sex workers in the second city more and more local women are turning to vice as their families struggle to cope with the recession.

One such woman, who asked to remain anonymous, but who we will call Clarissa, turned to prostitution after her husband lost his job.

She said: “It seems desperate, it is desperate, but it was the only option and I am not alone there are more of us out there these days then you would ever know.

“You have to understand it is a trade like anything else and when times get tough you turn to what you know best, what you can be sure of.

“But since things started getting tough last year I’ve seen more and more new women on the scene, not Eastern Europeans or anything else, but Brummies born and bred.”
