about love, particularly unrequited love and a lot of people relate to that.
“We have a strong Christian following but we’re also popular with Goths.
“The songs we sing are based on Mediaeval texts and I love the layering of the vocals.
“While people might not know what each individual word we are singing means, they can get a sense of the overall meaning from our stage performance as it’s quite visual.
“A lot of the songs have a story behind them and during the show we often talk about what the songs are about.”
Yet despite her sexy image Esther was shy as a child growing up and attending Plantsbrook School in Birmingham.
“I loved singing in my bedroom but I was always quite shy when I was younger,’’ she said. ‘‘It took me a long time to build my confidence.
“I’d always been interested in classical music from the baroque period but my old friends were surprised when they saw pictures of me in the Baebes.
“My parents have been very supportive and they are also quite artistic and musical. Dad is a retired teacher and Mum still works in an office above a garage in Newtown. She’s an inspiration as she’s a very glamorous lady.
“But getting to dress up as a Mediaeval fairy and princess is great fun. It’s every little girl’s dream.”
