Midlanders mourn departed pets online using memorial website

“Lovely little Gertie. You were a very special little hamster.

“We will miss your friendly little face so much, you were so gorgeous and we love you loads.”

A friend has also left another moving tribute to little Gertie.

She said: “The moment that you died my heart was torn in two. One side filled with heartache, the other died with you.

“I often lie awake at night when the world is fast asleep and take a walk down memory lane with tears upon my cheeks.”

And it is not just words and pictures being left on the memorials. Each owner is given the chance to have a song played as people view their beloved pet’s page.

Animal welfare groups have praised the site saying it underlines just how important pets are to people.

“I think it is really nice and shows how strongly people feel about their pets,” said RSPCA spokeswoman Judith Haw.

“For some people, they can be their only true friend.”
