Birmingham man dies in Stirchley house fire

A man's body has been found after a "severe fire" at a terraced house in Birmingham, emergency services said. Fire crews and the ambulance service were called to the blaze at the two-storey end-terrace house in Harvest Close, Stirchley, Birmingham, just after 4pm on Tuesday. West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service said 20 firefighters battled the blaze, with 12 going inside to fight the fire. They then discovered a man's body. He said: "Crews were confronted by a very severe fire in a two-storey end-terrace house. "A total of 12 firefighters entered the premises and extinguished the blaze where it was found that one man had been killed in the incident. "Any fire where there is a loss of life is very very tragic and our condolences go out to the family concerned." The spokesman said the cause of the blaze was being investigated by its Fire Research Investigation Team alongside colleagues from West Midlands Police. A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to the scene at around 4.20pm. Paramedics from the Hazard Area Response Team attended, as well as an incident support officer and an ambulance, he said. He said: "A fire appeared to have been burning for some time within the property. Firefighters were deployed inside the house. Unfortunately a body was discovered upstairs. Sadly nothing could be done to save the person and death was confirmed by ambulance staff."Read
