TV just isn't the same anymore

WITH television being so dreadful at the moment I can understand A Brown's joy (Mail August 1) at finding an opportunity to see television's golden oldies and although I have no access to YouTube I have recently purchased DVDs of some brilliant television series from the 70s and 80s and have had hours of pleasure watching To Serve Them All My Days, Shine On Harvey Moon, Family at War and best of all the brilliant series Sam, written by John Finch and starring the late Mark McManus, well remembered for his Taggart days. TALKING of human sewage (letters, August 3), in the 1940s my dad emptied our bucket toilet in a deep hole and planted a sunflower seed on top of it. The sunflower grew up to our bedroom window! Read
