HOW many chances does a dim-witted, multi-millionaire ball-hoofer need?
Having slept with hookers, slagged off England football fans and acted like a spoiled brat during club contract negotiations, Wayne Rooney has now seen fit to turn the airwaves blue with his foul-mouthed goal celebrations.
Rooney, a man of copious footballing talent but precious little common decency, has rightly been banned from the field of play – albeit for only two matches – as punishment for his dock-worker’s tirade to a TV camera.
He will miss one of his club’s most important ties of the season when Manchester Utd face their city rivals next weekend in an FA Cup semi-final tie.
Of course, the player should be fined by his employers for ruling himself out.
Man Utd, one of the world’s richest and most influential teams, certainly as far as children are concerned, have a golden opportunity to take a stand against thuggery. But they’ll pass it up.
