Wolves: Mick McCarthy gives his verdict on Liverpool performance

MICK McCarthy credited his Wolves side for battling back after a difficult first half at Anfield.

Even so, the Wolves boss felt Liverpool’s opening goal should have been disallowed by referee Kevin Friend and was critical of his defence for gifting Luis Suarez a second.

“I thought Roger Johnson was fouled as the cross came into the box,” he said.

“I thought Andy Carroll barged into him, and he is still getting up and trying to get into his position for the own goal, so I was annoyed with that.

“And the second one we tried to play offside – and did it badly and it cost us. So we had a difficult first half and a really excellent second half.”

It was a huge improvement on the home defeat to QPR.

“We expected that,” said McCarthy. “We don’t have many games like that. “Have I got an answer for it? No I haven’t.

“All I know is that my teams normally play like today and not like we did against QPR. Thankfully it doesn’t happen too often and when it does I get a response.”
