WAYNE Hennessey says his Wolves goalkeeping colleague Marcus Hahnemann deserves special praise for his behind-the-scenes work to improve his game.
Hahnemann lost his place following the 2-1 defeat at Blackpool in November and after appearing in 39 games over two seasons may have played his last match for the club as his contract has now ended.
The American is currently with the USA Gold Cup squad as he awaits a call from Mick McCarthy over his future plans.
McCarthy has looked at free agent Kieren Westwood and is known to have an interest in Preston keeper Andy Lonergan with time against Hahnemann who turns 39 in a fortnight.
Hennessey says the American was simply “a massive help to me over the season”.
“As goalkeepers we are all very close and support each other whoever is in the team,” said Hennessey.
“Everything happened so quickly at the end of the season and I know a lot of things weren’t going to be sorted out until we knew where we were.
“Whatever happens with Marcus, he has been a big help to me and I’m sure I’ll stay in touch with him.”
The Welsh keeper finally signed off from his season on Friday night with a clean sheet against Northern Ireland.
