KEVIN Doyle says boredom has played a part in his lack of goals this season - and admits he needs to wise up in a bid to find back of the net.
The talismanic striker says he is far from content with his season’s haul and will be looking to put it right with a more selfish approach over the next ten games.
Doyle will spearhead the Wolves attack against Spurs this afternoon looking to add to his three Premier League goals this season - with George Elokobi claiming his winner against Man United.
“I’m not happy with it. I suppose I’m never going to score a bucket load of goals, no one is in any of the bottom teams, but I would have liked to have got more,” Doyle said.
“I’m behind where I would like to be. Last year I got out of it what I think I possibly get out of it - nine goals. That’s what I was looking to beat this season. I feel I am playing well all round, just not translating it into goals as much as I would like,” added the 27-year-old.
“It is not for a lack of trying. Strikers love goals.
“You can play absolutely s*** in a game and score after 40 minutes or whatever, then everything you touch from that moment turns to gold. It just gives you confidence. It does help.
“The fact I’m not getting many goals and am playing reasonably well means I have had to play better elsewhere to make sure I keep in the team.
“I’ve got more assists than I have ever got in a league season. I’m not sure which is better - maybe I’d prefer to be missing chances every week which means you are going to score more!”
Doyle admits to a heart-to-heart with Mick McCarthy in an effort to end his drought.
“I’ve spoken to the manager about this. It is about getting the balance right. You need to do both,” he said.
“We’re playing with one up front, so I end up chasing stuff out in the corner and in wide areas, so it is hard to be in the box at the same time.
“I haven’t been getting it right at the moment because I haven’t got enough goals. But with ten games to go I’ve got a chance to change that.
