Kevin Doyle: A true Wolves hero

REMARKABLY, he didn’t manage to win the supporters’ vote for Player of the Year.

Ok, so a ratio of one goal every three-and-a-half league games was hardly prolific for a centre forward but, as Mark Twain suggested, statistics can be misleading.

Well, 47.3 per cent of all statistics are made up on the spot, according to comic Steven Wright.

But Kevin Doyle was most, if not all, things to all men draped in gold and black after a sparkling first season at Molineux.

Sure, he had hit 13 goals in the top division in 2006/07. But last season was better. Much better.

Even Steve Bull was heard to say: “He is an absolute die-hard for Wolves and I tell you what, if Wolves stay up this year he will make a name for himself for years to come.”

Wolves did stay up. And the foundations have been laid for the 26-year-old quietly-spoken Irishman to become a legend, if not in the Bull mould then something close.
