Wolves boss discusses Ronald Zubar challenge

WOLVES boss Mick McCarthy labelled Ronald Zubar’s challenge on Jozy Altidore “a Texas Chainsaw Massacre” moment.

But the Irishman backed the French defender for refusing to let his head drop.

“I thought the penalty decision was the worst decision I have seen in a long time – by Ronald Zubar,” he said.

“There was no question in my mind it was a penalty. It was a mistake to compound the two mistakes that had gone before it. How did I feel? I think Texas Chainsaw Massacre came into mind.

“We lost the ball in midfield and then missed a tackle and it was a ridiculous penalty to give away.

“We were away from home and had just scored to get back into the game and I just thought it would be remiss to go and make the change then.

“But to give him credit, in his plus column, I thought he then got us back in the game by his power getting forward and he forced the issue when we got our second equaliser.”

McCarthy said his five-man midfield worked.

“I know there will be people saying we should have changed it to go and try and win it but we were creating chance after chance after chance playing with one up front and three in the middle,’’ he said.

“I might just have weakened my own case and we could have got beaten and that was something I certainly didn’t want to do.”
