“We dropped off when we lost to Norwich and Swansea but we went back and were there all the time.
“That shows a bit of character because it is difficult leading from the front.
“Going collectively into the Premier is a different ball game.
“Just telling them they are good enough doesn’t work. You have to get results, play in it and win games. How difficult is that?
“The lads at the bottom of the table now can’t seem to get a result from anywhere. You can lose five or six on the bounce.
“You have to win games to give you belief and confidence. We have had it in abundance this season.
“They will all come back thinking and believing they can play in Premier League. Doing it is a completely different matter.”
And so, he hopes, is taking Wolves and not Sunderland up.
* WOLVES’ club captain Jody Craddock is to sign a new one-year contract at Molineux after leading the club to promotion to the Premier League.
Former Sunderland centre half Craddock, 33, would have been out of contract this summer.
He said: “To earn a new contract at my age and win promotion is the best thing I have done in my career. The sooner I sign it the better.”
