Wolverhampton Wanderers striker doesn't want his mum at the match

Wolverhampton hot-shot Sylvan Ebanks-Blake may rate his mother as his number one fan but, if he had his way, he would get her banned from matches. Football grounds, he feels, are no place for a lady!

The 22-year-old striker is blazing a trail in the Championships with ten goals so far this season and looks every inch as though he will at least match the 23 goals he scored last season to earn himself the league’s Golden Boot award.

And while Ebanks-Blake loves the support of his family back in his home town of Cambridge, he is happiest if his mother Esmeena stays away from Molineux. He admits if he had a bad game he would hate her to hear the stick likely to be thrown his way.

He said: “My dad comes to a lot of games but my mum not so much. I don’t really like her at games.

‘‘It is not just in case of any stick but you know what football crowds can be like and I don’t really want her around that!

“They live in Cambridge and she came to the game last Saturday against Burnley and that was one of the few games she has been to.

‘‘She did enjoy it and, luckily it was a great occasion with us winning 2-0 but it might have been different on a different day.
