Wolverhampton Wanderers in double swoop for Jason Shackell and Matt Hill

MICK McCarthy’s table-topping Wolves are aiming to build from a position of strength after closing in on two defensive reinforcements.

Norwich last night accepted a £1 million bid for centre-half Jason Shackell while Preston left-back Matt Hill is also set to agree a move to Molineux.

Wolves striker Stephen Elliott is expected to move to Deepdale as part of an exchange deal for Elliott.

McCarthy confirmed that two of his transfer targets were sat in the stands for yesterday’s convincing 5-1 victory over Nottingham Forest, which sent Wolves top of the table on goal difference ahead of Blues.

Excited

Wing wonders Michael Kightly, pictured celebrating, and Matt Jarvis were the inspiration behind the biggest victory of McCarthy’s reign and the boss was full of praise for the duo.

“I had this thought last season when I signed Matt Jarvis and Michael Kightly that that’s how I wanted to play and then they got injured.” said McCarthy.

“We never really got them on the pitch at the same time.

“I play 4-4-2 so the thought of it excited me 15 months ago, now it doesn’t excite me. It’s their job, they get on with it and that’s what I expect of them. If they excite the fans then brilliant.”
