Somen Tchoyi hoping for more consistency with West Brom

SOMEN Tchoyi is hoping to shake off his ‘hit-and-miss’ tag by becoming a consistent performer for West Brom.

The versatile Baggies ace admits he is slowly starting to achieve his aim of becoming a regular Premier League player.

Tchoyi has a habit of drifting in and out of games but often produces flashes of brilliance with his unpredictable playing style.

The 28-year-old had yet to find the back of the net this season before yesterday’s game against Villa, but has proved a real nuisance for opposing defenders in recent games.

Consistency is the key to earning a regular starting berth and Tchoyi insists he is battling to become a permanent fixture in Albion’s side.

“It’s going well, slowly but surely,” said the Cameroon international who is still improving his English.

“Very slowly I’m starting to force my way into the team which is good.

“Towards the end of last season it was starting to get better for me.

“I played in some games early on in the season and then a lot more at the end.

“It’s my job to play where I’m told. I’m happy when I’m playing.”

Tchoyi bagged seven goals last season after his £2.5million switch from SV Salzburg.

Roberto Di Matteo signed the attacking midfielder after he impressed in the Austrian Bundesliga, winning the league’s player-of-the-year award two years on the bounce.

He failed to impress initially but then started to win Albion fans over with his flamboyant play.

Roy Hodgson has used the 14-capped international in a more advanced role this season after he impressed as a second striker towards the back end of the last campaign.

It’s still seems unclear where his best position lies, although Tchoyi is not too concerned and is more focused on results.

“Playing well is my main focus, not the position,” he added.
