West Brom head coach Roberto Di Matteo admits John Carew interest

West Brom head coach Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed his interest in signing Aston Villa striker John Carew.

Di Matteo hopes Villa will allow Carew to leave after the signing of Darren Bent from Sunderland for a club record £18 million.

The Norwegian international had already slipped down the pecking order at Villa before Bent's arrival.

Di Matteo confirmed: "They (Villa) know of our interest (in Carew).

"But obviously it has been a bit hectic there the last couple of days (with the Bent signing).
