WEST Brom captain Jonathan Greening may have missed goalkeeper Scott Carson’s England misfortune in Germany because he was at an Elton John concert – but he is backing his team-mate to still be standing in the race to succeed David James as England’s No.1.
While John Terry proved that sorry doesn’t seem to be the hardest word by exonerating the Albion keeper of any blame for Germany’s equaliser in Berlin on Wednesday night, the mix up is another blot on the 23-year-old’s international copybook.
But Greening said there was no need for Carson’s team-mates to rally around to lift his spirits when he returned to training on Thursday morning. And he urged England manager Fabio Capello to show faith in the former Liverpool and Aston Villa stopper.
“I didn’t see it because I was at the Elton John concert in Birmingham, but I heard about it,” Greening confessed.
“He is fine. He came back afterwards and he was bubbling around. He didn’t mention it but I don’t think it will bother him, he is that kind of character.
“John Terry came out as well and said he was more responsible for the goal than Scott, so that will take the pressure of him and I don’t think it will affect him whatsoever.
