Andy Walker Column: Birmingham City are just like the England cricket team

Thanks to those of you who got in touch following my first column last weekend.

I couldn’t ignore the following piece that was forwarded to me and taken from Ron, a regular contributor to the online Blues forum, www.smallheathalliance.com

Given that supporting Blues can often be just as nail-biting as watching the England cricket team, this comparison has been drawn up between Alex McLeish’s men and our boys down in South Africa.

* Joe Hart = Graeme Swann: The new kid on the block who has become an instant hit.

* Stephen Carr = Paul Collingwood: Experienced, unspectacular, but reliable.

* Scott Dann = Graham Onions: The unsung hero, going about his business quietly whilst others take the plaudits, but never lets you down.

* Roger Johnson = Stuart Broad: Young, talented and a bolshy, annoying, always-in-your face kind of attitude.

* Liam Ridgewell = Ian Bell: Playing out of position under a lot of pressure, but doing ok.

* Seb Larsson = Alastair Cook: Not quite living up to the hype of a few years back, but signs of getting back to his best.

* Barry Ferguson = Jonathan Trott: Just keeps things ticking over in the middle.

* Lee Bowyer = Andrew Strauss: Been around the block and now a solid, sensible, no nonsense performer.

* James McFadden = Kevin Pietersen: A genius on his day, but an arrogant so-and-so sometimes who lets himself down.

* Christian Benitez = Matt Prior: Little, aggressive, tenacious and sometimes gets a little carried away.

* Cameron Jerome = Jimmy Anderson: Has all the attributes to be great but sometimes lacks control.
