Rugeley's Robert Rock to compete in British Masters at Belfry

RUGELEY golfer Robert Rock has received a much appreciated invite to play at the

Quinn Insurance British Masters this month at his home course, The Belfry.

The Battle of the Brabazon will take place from 25th-28th September at the

famous golf resort and local hero Rock will take on some of Europe's golfing

titans including reigning champion Lee Westwood, legend Colin Montgomerie and

Paul McGinley, who holed Europe's winning putt at The Belfry in the 2002 Ryder

Cup.

Rock, 31, enjoyed his best European Tour result to date at the tournament in

2003, when he finished tied fourth alongside Darren Clarke, who will also be

playing at the anticipated event.

As well as playing in front of a home crowd, the Quinn Insurance British Masters

will carry extra pressure for Rock, who currently lies 118th on the European

Tour Order of Merit. A strong finish will enable him to secure his Tour card for

next season and qualify automatically for such prestigious tournaments.

The Midlands professional realised his dream of playing on The European Tour

when, having taken up Affiliate Membership in 2003, he made enough money from

his seven invitations to finish 116th on the Order of Merit and secure his full

playing privileges for the following season.

"I'm really looking forward to playing at the Quinn Insurance British Masters.

It's always great to have the crowd behind you and playing on the Brabazon, a

course I'm so familiar with, will give me a real chance of a strong finish. I

hope many locals will be able to come down to The Belfry and lend their support

while enjoying the tournament." said Rock.

Andrew 'Chubby' Chandler, Managing Director of promoters International Sports

Management, adds; "It's always great news to welcome a strong local candidate to

this tournament and we are delighted to invite Robert to return to the scene of

one of his finest moments."
