Luke Young supports Aston Villa squad rotation

ASTON Villa defender Luke Young believes squad rotation will benefit his side in their pursuit of honours this term.

Martin O'Neill survived the last campaign with a relatively small squad and very few injuries, but with Villa in the UEFA Cup this season, Young knows players will need to be rested if his side are to successfully chase trophies at home and abroad.

"We might have different line-ups every week and see some players come in and then out of the side but Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal do it. This shows we are moving in the right direction," he told the club website.

"Patience is important because footballers want to play games, but we are all sensible enough to know that with Europe, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup, you can't play every single game.

"Rotation is part of modern-day football now when you're in that many competitions."
