John Carew is ready for Europa League revenge against Rapid Vienna

BIG John Carew insists the phrase ‘Good Night Vienna’ will have more positive connotations for Aston Villa in Europe this season.

It spelt the end of the claret and blues’ Europa League adventure when they were knocked out by Rapid Vienna at the same stage a year ago.

But Carew is confident that Villa can ensure an enjoyable evening in the Austrian capital during this week’s planned revenge mission.

For the second season running Villa have been paired with Rapid in the two-legged qualifying stage of the former UEFA Cup.

They will play away at the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium on Thursday evening before the home leg at Villa Park a week later.

Carew experienced mixed fortunes a year ago when a mystery illness prevented him from playing in the first leg 1-0 defeat in Vienna.

But the Norwegian fans’ favourite was fit enough to take his place in Martin O’Neill’s line-up for the return.
