“He is captain of Ireland and was captain of Manchester City so he will bring strength to our squad,” said Petrov.
“Martin Laursen is a massive loss but he is away now and we have to learn to live without him,” Petrov added.
The Bulgarian international is happy to see newcomer Steven Warnock in the squad for today’s visit of Roy Hodgson’s Fulham in the Barclays Premier League after the player completed his £8 million transfer from Blackburn Rovers on Thursday.
“Steve has been in and around the Premier League for a long time,” said Petrov.
“He is an experienced player and he will bring us a lot of nous.
“He has great ability and I am sure that he will add a lot to our team,” he added.
