but to be here with England is a massive honour.
"Now I'm here I'm delighted just to be here, but I would quite like to get a few minutes on the pitch tonight against Germany.
"To be named in the manager's first provisional squad was great because, like this time, I really didn't expect it.
"Now to step into the 23-man squad is another step forward, and if I could get some minutes it would cap a really great year for me.
"If I have done well in the manager's eyes while I've been here then, even if I don't get a cap, I can stay in his mind for future games.
"I can just keep my form going for Aston Villa and, if I can be involved in any of the qualifiers, then great."
Davies hopes the likes of himself and Villa team-mates Gabriel Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and James Milner can all push to break into the England side.
Agbonlahor and Young are expected to be given some action by Capello during tonight's game.
Davies continued: "Villa have a lot of good players coming through the ranks. I think a lot of the players won the FA Youth Cup a few years ago and a lot of the players came through that team.
"The gaffer (Martin O'Neill) also likes to buy English. He's brought me, Nigel Reo-Coker, Ashley Young and James Milner in, so he does like young English players.
"Hopefully we can push on with Aston Villa and perhaps all break into the England team.
"Gabby has great pace first and foremost but he's not just fast, he's powerful as well. You see some people who are fast but they get knocked off the ball easily.
"When Gabby's running with the ball, he's still strong enough to hold you off at the same time.
"Ashley can put a ball wherever he wants it. He's got an unbelievable delivery and, if you check his Villa stats, I think he creates or scores a goal every other game."
