Aston Villa are favourites says Martin Jol

HAMBURG boss Martin Jol believes Aston Villa are favourites to top their UEFA Cup group.

Jol knows Martin O’Neill’s side well from his days at Tottenham and the two sides will face each other in the final match of Group F in Germany on December 17.

Both teams could be qualified by then but Jol, whose team are top of the Bundesliga, reckons Villa will be group winners.

Villa are at home to an emerging Ajax side managed by Marco van Basten on October 23 and then they will face Slavia Prague and outsiders Zilina, from Slovakia, before taking on Jol’s men.

“Ajax Amsterdam is a big club but for me Aston Villa are the favourites to win the group,’’ said Jol.
