Drop in for lunch at Bar South in Kingswinford

Bargain lunch with OAPs in trendy bar

BAR South is a nice evening haunt, a place to drop in for drinks on the patio in the summer or to listen to the DJ in the bar.

It’s not necessarily a place you would think to go for food at lunchtime.

But that’s where you’d be mistaken, because the food is home-cooked and good value and the staff are friendly.

We went on a Saturday lunchtime and found it was popular with a much older clientele, people who wouldn’t dream of venturing there on a Saturday night. But, these pensioners know how to spot a bargain.

With jacket potatoes from £2, hot and cold sarnies from £3 and main meals like chicken casserole and Black Country faggots from £4, who could blame them?

I went for a tuna melt (£2.95) with chips (an extra £1). It was served as a pannini and was filling and delicious, especially as it was nicely presented with a salad.

My husband Adam had the homemade soup of the day (£2.95) which was vegetable and was served with a warm baguette and butter. I tried it and it really did taste home-made and nutritious.

Our little boy Frankie had a ham sandwich (£2.95) which was loaded with lovely thick cut farmhouse ham. The only slight grumble was that the bread wasn’t buttered.

We shared a toasted tea cake to finish (95p).

The bill, including a couple of soft drinks and a cappuccino, came to just over £15.
