Nostalgia: Cup winners reunited

I am enclosing a photograph of the football team Hockley Celtic – a team of young men living in the Hockley and Brookfields areas of the city – who won the Sunday/Monday Cup and League in 1949-50.

Also enclosed is a photograph taken last June at a reunion held at, and organised by, retired Birmingham businessman Mr Frank Grinnell, who was the team’s goalkeeper, at his lovely Harborne home.

Frank has his original football boots around his neck.

The members of the team that Frank managed to trace spent a wonderful day remembering old times accompanied by their wives – the original WAGs? – all couples who are now in their lates 70s or early 80s.
