Boy who went on to play for England

Holyhead Road Boy's School

ONE of the players in this school football team went on to play for England against Brazil.

The team is Holyhead Road Boys' School in Wednesbury, in 1948-49, and the youngster in question is Norman Deeley.

Norman (second from the right, front row) became a star with Wolverhampton Wanderers before getting his international call.

Norman, who died last year aged 73, played for Wolves for more than 12 years and was part of the team that enjoyed great success in the 1950s.
