An increasing number of mums are going under the knife to regain their post-baby figures. Lifestyle Editor ZOE CHAMBERLAIN spoke to one Midland mother who underwent an astonishing transformation after spending £10,000 on plastic surgery.
BRIDGET Whelan knew she looked far from a yummy mummy after having five children.
Although she always ate healthily and regularly went to the gym, nothing could compensate for her saggy breasts and droopy belly.
So when the full-time mum came into an inheritance, she decided to get her figure back by paying for a tummy tuck and boob job.
The operations cost a whopping £10,000 – but the results were amazing.
“I’d read about plastic surgery and seen the operations on TV and thought I’d love to have something done myself one day,” says divorcee Bridget, 47 and from Derby.
“Now that I have, I feel so different – almost young again!”
The toll of seven pregnancies – sadly, Bridget miscarried twice – left her with a body she wanted to cover up with baggy clothes.
Over the years she lost weight but her body never felt the same.
“Celebs should come clean about having plastic surgery after giving birth,” says Bridget, whose children John, Michelle, Natasha, Tom and Laura are aged between 14 and 23.
“No-one can look as good as they do so soon after having children. They should be honest about it instead of making us mums feel inadequate.
“Losing weight and regaining your figure is the last thing on your mind after having a baby. It’s not natural to palm your child off to someone else so you can get fit. You just don’t have time.
“Having had a baby practically every year for seven or eight years, I was always busy. There would be one to feed, one to put to bed etc, so it was a bit hectic and there was never time to get fit.”
Bridget was a size 10 to 12 before she first became pregnant at the age of 23.
