EXCLUSIVE: Judas Priest founder quits band

GUITARIST KK Downing has quit Black Country rock supergroup Judas Priest.

The shock departure comes on the eve of the band’s Epitaph tour, and rocked the band.

The 59 year-old guitar star, who lives at Astbury Hall in Satffordshire, was a founder member of the band in 1968.

Born in West Bromwich, his guitar riffs and solos helped make Priest one of the biggest rock acts in the world.

The reason for his departure is initially unknown, but it is thought that he was tired of touring.

A statement from the band today read: “It is with regret that Judas Priest announce that KK Downing has formally retired from the band and will therefore not be joining them on their forthcoming Epitaph tour.

“The band respect his decision and naturally all wish him well.

“Having thought long and hard about how to proceed, Rob, Glenn, Ian and Scott unanimously agreed that they should go ahead with the tour and not let the fans down all around the world.”

Downing’s place in the band is being taken by 31 year-old British guitarist Richie Faulkner, from the Lauren Harris Band and Metalworks.

Members of Judas Priest saw him play live at festivals, and watched his Youtube videos.
