RAPHAEL SAADIQStone Rollin’ (Columbia)
HGET down! Grammy winner Saadiq returns with a third time warp wonder, taking old school soul and bringing it up to date. Heart Attack opens like Sly & The Family Stone, a bass-heavy groove that’s simply irresistible. Just Don’t and Moving Down The Line have that ol’ Motown magic and Day Dreams puts you in mind of classic Commitments. But it’s more than a tribute. The title track borrows from Creedence but sounds fresh, and the overall effect reminds you of Prince when he was still puple. PC
