ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION Reissues (Beat Goes On)
ATLANTA Rhythm Section were formed in Doraville, Georgia in 1971 and had worked previously with Classics IV and Roy Orbison.
They broke through with a cover version of Spooky, complete with slinky guitar, and won plaudits on both sides of the Atlantic.
Four early albums – Atlanta Rhythm Section, Back Up Against The Wall, Underdog and The Boys From Doraville are now released across two CDs, and were originally recorded between 1973 and 1980.
Nicely seasoned, laid back and cool, ARS have been part of the American Deep South rock’n’roll scene for more than thirty years, recording about 15 albums during that time.
All of those albums were made at the legendary Studio One recording studios in Doraville, GA – now sadly torn down to make way for a parking lot.
BILLY PAUL
When Love Is New (Edsel)
THIS is another CD in a collection of reissues from the Philadelphia International label, founded by production and songwriting duo Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff in 1971.
Billy Paul, born Paul Williams in 1934, released his first record way back in 1952. It was twenty years later that he found international fame with Me And Mrs Jones, a No 1 hit in the USA and reaching No 12 on the UK charts.
When Love Is New, originally released in 1975, was Billy Paul’s fifth album. Tracks include People Power, America We Need The Light, Let The Dollar Circulate, Malorie, the title track, I Want’cha Baby and toe-curlingly titled hit Let’s Make A Baby.
