NEIL YOUNG
After The Goldrush Remastered (Rhino)
wTHERE are those who will tell you that Harvest is the definitive Neil Young album but After The Goldrush – recorded two years earlier – is better. It’s here we heard for the first time the angry Southern Man (which sparked Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama riposte), the fragile I Believe In You, and Tell Me Why, which set out his country-rock credentials. Towering over them all, however, is the drop dead gorgeous Only Love Can Break Your Heart, with one Stephen Stills on backing vocals. This is part of a timely remastered release of all Neil Young’s early albums. PC
