CHRIS CORNELL
Scream
(Polydor)
wAFTER rock gods Soundgarden and Audioslave, Chris Cornell’s solo career was always going to be under steely scrutiny. The little matter of a Bond theme enabled him to cash in at Casino Royale but now he faces the cold light of day. Cue a radical change of style, which finds him stepping back from rock and roll, and experimenting instead with R&B – helped in the studio by Timberland, no less. While the Eastern-inspired Take Me Alive, Enemy and Climbing The Walls are intriguing, they’re not the Cornell most know and love. Catch him live at Download. PC
